February 2020 Mayor's Message

Mayor’s Message                                                                                           February 2020

We have made it through the month of January without the weather being too bad.  We had some snow, but the temperatures were above normal for most of the month.  The coldest I remember was the day we celebrated our Christmas Glow Celebration.  The Saturdays the week before and the week after were both in the 40’s.  Oh well, we’ll try and do better next year.

Our new Comprehensive Plan, Cuba City-Today & Tomorrow is coming along very well.  We held our final public meeting on Wednesday, the 29th.  The next step will be compiling all the information they received and put the plan together.  We hope to have the new Comprehensive Plan back to us during March.  Thank you to everyone who filled out surveys and attended the meetings.

We are in the process of beginning a plan for a Plaza around the caboose area.  Engineering students will be surveying the area and come up with a plan that we can do there.  It would be a step process that we could do over three or four years.  The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Engineering School will be taking on the project design.   We thank them for their help for the betterment of Cuba City.

A recent survey was completed by the school students.  The first question asked was “What is the main reason you would come back to Cuba City in 10 years after you go to school or enter the workforce after high School?” The top answer was family, the second answer was the community, and the third reason was kind people and it being a small city.

The next question on the survey was “What does Cuba City not have that neighboring towns have and you wish we had/”  The number 1 answer was a fast food restaurant, and ice cream shop, coffee shop and food items, and the last reason was for better shopping options and a community center/pool.

The last question was “What is something that you believe sets Cuba City apart from neighboring towns?’  The number one item the students said was the community and the friendly people.  The other top answers were the local businesses, the schools and our Main Street.  Gathering this information from the students will help tremendously in our new Comprehensive Plan.  Thank You Students!

Our local city government is in good shape compared to the state of our country.  Your elected officials you have chosen to do what’s best for you the residents of Cuba City.  We have no party lines we are forced to follow.  There is a lot to be learned from City government for our State and Federal officials.  I hate to watch the news at night with all the bad things happening.  I hope and pray that somehow, someway, we can get back to the way it used be!  God Bless America!
