Mayor's Message

May 1, 2020                                                   Mayor’s Message

We have just completed another month of the pandemic and our Safer at Home order.  We listen all the time to the news and sometimes when the news is over, I am more confused than before.  We are in uncharted water and I am not sure anyone knows when this will be over.  A lot of people on TV are guessing, but only God is in control.  He will help us through these terrible times.

My heart goes out to all our local businesses suffering through this time.  To them and their employees, the city and residents need to reach out to them and give them support and help.  It’s definitely not their fault they have been forced to close their business.

The Kelly Street project by Epione Pavilion is up and running again after an early winter caused them to shut down last fall.  The curb and gutter is going in and it will soon be ready for the black top crews to come in and put the finishing touches.  I want to thank everyone living in that area for your patience and understanding through the winter months with the mess.

We look forward to summer and the many projects the city will be working on this year.  We will be putting a new street on the south end that will connect Lincoln Street & Splinter Street.  Having this new street will stop a lot of congestion in that area and make it safer in case of a fire.  It will also take some of the traffic off Lincoln Street with people going to the compost area.  This will be a welcome addition to our great streets.  We are proud to say that we did not have one pothole in Cuba City this year!

Our first market of the year will be held on May 20th.  It will be a little different with only food being sold and social distancing in place. We will have some new food vendors at the Market. Please watch the newspaper or visit the City website for more information.

Cuba City received 15 nominations for the River Travel Magazine Best of the River 2020 contest. Please visit and cast your votes for our nominees at: https://rivertravelmagazine.com/bestof/

It looks like the month of May will be pretty much the same as April as far as the Safer at Home.  Please be patient as it may take more time to get through this than first expected.  Get outside and enjoy the warm weather.  We can be thankful we are not in the middle of the winter.
