Mayor's Message - December 2019

December 2019                                               Mayor’s Message

As we enter the month of December, we look forward to the holidays and time spent with family and friends.  What a world we would have if the entire year could be like the Christmas season.  Yes, there is stress during this time and that’s to be expected.  Buying gifts, preparing food, and families coming home for the holidays.  I personally wish we could turn back the clock to a simpler Christmas time, where getting together for the true meaning of Christmas was what it was all about.  The city put up the beautiful Christmas decorations lining Main Street and they look great.

Our “Christmas in Cuba City Celebration” will be on December 14th.  There will activities throughout the day with the parade sponsored by Gile Real Estate & Insurance at 6:00 PM ending at the Caboose area. Weber’s will be serving Hot Hors D’oeuvres during this time.    A tree of remembrance will be lit for loved ones we have lost sponsored by Casey Funeral Services.  There will be bus rides to go around the town and to look and judge the best Christmas Home Decorations.  The lights tour is sponsored by Scott Implement and Stratton buses.  There will be lots of activities around the Caboose starting at 4:00 PM.  Santa will be arriving at the Caboose on the back of a fire truck after the parade sponsored by Thompson’s IGA.  Hometown Pharmacy will sponsor a Christmas in Cuba City Storybook Walk for Children and Adults.  Please mark your calendars and come out and have some good old fashion Christmas fun by the Caboose.

Our street project on Kelly Street by Epione Pavilion has been halted due to the cold and snowy weather we received so early this year.  The project will be completed in the spring.  Please drive carefully in that area during the winter months.

The new Comprehensive Plan, “Cuba City Today & Tomorrow” is moving forward with lots of participation from the public.  There is a survey on the Cuba City website we would like to have everyone fill as to things you would like to see in Cuba City in the future.  No idea is to small or impossible.  We need to list as many things as possible in our wish list.  I am thankful for the participation from the high school students for the survey they completed.  A special “Thank You” for Jenna Droessler and Teagen Graber for being a part of the downtown Task Force.  The next public meeting will December 11th at the Fire/Rescue Building on South Main.

The Old School Apartments are nearing completion and over 50% have been rented.  If you were unable to attend their first open house, they will be scheduling another one in very new future.  Please take time and look so that you know how nice they are for you in the future or someone you might know looking for an apartment.  The apartments are a great addition to Cuba City.

The city is working on a new website that will be available before the end of the year.  The website will be more user friendly and more up to date than our current one.  Please be watching for it and let us know what you think.  I am sure you will like it.

As I close, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year.  I hope everyone has a safe travel season!

Merry Christmas!

Tom
