Mayor's Message January 2020

January 2020                                    Mayor’s Message

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas with their family and friends.  The weather was perfect for travel and made for much easier commuting to all the places everyone needs to get to.  I know a white Christmas was something everyone wanted but there is always next year.  Isn’t it funny we had snow for Halloween but 50-degree temperatures on Christmas?  Our Christmas Glow celebration this year was a huge success despite the cold temperatures and wind chill of 5 degrees.  The parade was excellent and a big “thank you” needs to go out to Bridget Wilson from Hometown Pharmacy for all she did to make it happen.  It takes a lot of planning to make a celebration happen!

With the end of 2019, we need to look back on what we have accomplished and what lies ahead for 2020 and new decade.  For many, 2019 may have been a tough year with the loss of a family member or a friend.  To you we offer our heart felt sympathy for your loss.  In a small city like Cuba City, everyone feels your loss.

The city was able to accomplish all projects but the new street by Epione Pavilion.  With all the rain through the year and the early onset of winter, the Kelly Street project will be completed in the spring.  We thank everyone for their patience and understanding.  We welcomed two new public works employees, Jacob Salzman, Electric Lineman, and Chad Bennett in the waste water treatment plant.  Both are doing an excellent job and we hope both will be with the city for many years.

The new Cuba City Comprehensive Plan, Cuba City-Today and Tomorrow, is coming along very well.  There has been a great participation from the residents of Cuba City attending meetings and filling out the questionnaire.  We need everyone’s input so we can shape Cuba City’s future.  The next meeting will be held on January 29th at the firehouse.  Please plan on attending if you possibly can.  Learn what others would like to see in Cuba City.  The more we put in the Plan the better the City will be in the future.

On Monday, December 30th, we launched the new Cuba City Website.  The new site will be much easier to navigate and hopefully bring more viewers.  Once you have had a chance to view it, please let us know if there is anything you would like to add or change.  It’s exciting to have a new website along with our Cuba City, Today and Tomorrow Plan.  It will be a work in progress for the next month or two.

As we close 2019, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Mayor.  It is a privilege and an honor.  If you should have any concerns or questions, please contact me.

Happy New Year Everyone!                                              Tom
